FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MAY 26, 2023

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Broken Arrow Athletics has announced the hiring of Breonna Barker as varsity head swim coach.

Barker joins the athletic department from the BA Freshman Academy, where she has served as an English teacher since 2020. She was the assistant coach for the varsity swim team from 2019-2022.

Barker, a 2015 Broken Arrow graduate, is the most-decorated swimmer in school history. She earned High School All-American honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior. Her state swimming medals all came in sprints: four in the 100-yard freestyle and three in the 50-yard free. Barker holds school records in the 50-, 100-, 200-, and 500-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard breaststroke. She was the state’s top swimming recruit as a senior and signed to swim at the University of Kansas.

“We are thrilled to welcome back one of our own, and one of our school’s most decorated swimmers, in Coach Breonna Barker,” said executive director of athletics, Dustin Smith. “Coach Barker is driven to be successful and will challenge our swimmers to be great in the pool, but also great in life. I am beyond excited to have Coach Barker leading our swimming program.”

“I am so grateful to be a part of this team again and am absolutely elated to start accomplishing great things together,” said Barker.
